The program, started by singer Dolly Parton in 1996, mails out one age-appropriate book each month for a year for every child signed up on its rolls. |

| | Capital Area United Way announced its annual Community Investment breakout as determined by a committee of 120 volunteers from across the community. The Committee had $6 million to award between 100 programs in 47 non-profits across United Way's ten parish area. Despite a down year for the campaign the total was an increase of $265,768 over last year due largely to budget cuts by Capital Area United Way and better than expected collections of last year's pledges. |
