Building Healthy Communities is taking measures to encourage wellness, educating people about medical problems and issues, proactively preventing disease and illness, providing health screening, informing the public about healthy alternatives, providing information needed to avoid emergencies and accidents, investing in research, protecting and helping the elderly, assisting with medication, helping family members understand and avoid health problems, addressing substance abuse from both the education and treatment perspectives, making sure mothers-to-be have healthy babies and young mothers are able to nurture their babies, providing supplies and equipment to normalize daily living.

A PROBLEM:
·          Seniors are often reluctant to ask their doctor questions about their medicine and possible side effects.
·          Medicine, transportation to the doctor, and/or home health care is expensive.
 
A WAY TO HELP:
·          United Way agencies provide free information about medical conditions, support groups, and therapeutic programs.
·          Low cost prescriptions, hearing screenings, and medical supplies are among the many services available.
