Companies and volunteers that participate in Capital Area United Way Workplace Giving Campaigns recognize the growing need in our community and choose Capital Area United Way as the way to help.

The following volunteer campaign coordinators (listed alphabetically by last name) exemplified this effort by leading some of the most successful company campaigns in our 10-parish Capital Area:

Deputy Warden Janet Lorena, Dixon Correctional Institute:

"It is the mission of Dixon Correctional Institute to provide custody, care, control and treatment of adjudicated offenders through enforcement of laws and management of programs designed to insure the safety of the public, staff, and inmates and to reintegrate offenders into society.  Some of the organizations funded through Capital Area United Way (CAUW) offer services and outreach programs designed to build character in young lives and offer juvenile rehabilitation for adjudicated adolescents.  Through participation in these programs and by being given an opportunity to learn to make better choices, young people who receive services from these CAUW-supported agencies are more likely to lead better lives.  By making better choices as they grow up, many of these young people will make positive contributions to our community rather than doing things that lead to incarceration."

Katherine Denova, Jacobs Engineering:

"United Way is important to suport as a company and as an individual because it covers every aspect of everyday life.  In my opinion, there could be a time in everyone's life where they could use the assistance or a service that a United Way agency offers.  When you see first-hand like I have what kind of impact you can make, it is a feeling that is unexplainable.  You never forget the smiling faces of children when you do something so small that some of us take for granted."

Christy Reeves, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana:

"The thousands of dollars raised during this annual campaign make it possible for United Way to bring about long-lasting, positive change in our community.  Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and our employees responded to this challenge by giving very generously, and we are proud to contribute to the enrichment of our community.  As a former United Way agency director, I know how the services provided by the member agencies would not be possible without the support of local people.  By donating to United Way, Blue Cross has an impact right here in our community where we live and work."

Paul Bellizaire, Chevron Phillips, St. James:

"As the 2007 Campaign Coordinator for Chevron, our site's giving increased by 30.5%.  The employees stepped up to the plate and showed their support for United Way by helping the company surpass this year's goal.  Capital Area United Way is a great way to make sure help is getting where it's needed most."

Sharon Stickling, Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, LLP:

"Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson (BSW) has a long-standing tradition of supporting Capital Area United Way (CAUW), however, this was the first year I served as the Campaign Coordinator for BSW.  Personally, I have contributed to CAUW for many years, never dreaming that one day I might receive services through one of their member agencies.  This was more than just a role for me, it was more of a 'thank you' to CAUW.  BSW's corporate values state, 'we have a social responsibility to contribute to the well-being of the communities in which we operate.  We will support civic and charitable causes with our time and money.'  With the generosity from all at BSW, we far exceeded our goals.  We made the campaign fun by having fundraisers which included a jean day, selling seafood dinners, and even raffling off gifts like cameras, flowers, gift cards, etc.  Overall, the CAUW campaign at BSW was a success, not just in dollars, but also by bringing awareness to how CAUW helps to change lives and strengthen the community we live in."

Marree Saltaformaggio, Woman's Hospital:

"Together we are building a patient-centered community of extraordinary people and exceptional care.  We believe Woman's Hospital employees to be some of the most extraordinary people in the community, who really care about helping others and reaching out to provide, as best they can, for the needs of others.  We support the United Way because we know that United Way will use what we give in a positive way to improve, enrich, and reach out to the community."

Vicki McBride, Baton Rouge Business Report:

"It's an honor to give back to United Way just as they gave to me as a child;  United Way has made me the person I am today."
