At Capital Area United Way, we help people overcome barriers to good health by improving access to nutritious food and quality health education & services, including preventative care, maternal & child health, mental health support, and more.

Programs & Initiatives:

  • SingleCare Prescription Savings Card
    Providing community members with access to affordable prescription medications, ensuring greater health and financial stability.
  • United We Feed
    Fresh produce distributions to ALICE individuals & families experiencing food insecurity.

 

Education / Youth Opportunity
Every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. At Capital Area United Way, we help children get off to a good start and empower youth to reach their full potential by breaking down barriers to success. We advance what works, including early childhood education, literacy development, access to a high-quality K-12 education, enrichment opportunities like afterschool and summer programs, college and career readiness, and family engagement, fostering a future where every young person can realize their dreams.

  • Investments in & Advocating for Early Childhood Development
    We support parents, caregivers, and communities to create early learning opportunities for young children.
  • Project & Innovative Grant Funding
    Capital Area United Way invests in opportunities for more young people to prepare for high school, college and careers, empowering them to achieve their full potential and contribute positively to their communities.

 

Economic Mobility / Financial Security
Everyone deserves the opportunity to earn a living that can sustain a family and build security for future generations. That's why we're helping hard working ALICE families make ends meet while connecting them with the education, financial tools, and job training opportunities to empower them to create a better, more sustainable future for themselves and their loved ones.

Programs & Initiatives:

  • Bank On Baton Rouge
    Connecting the unbanked & underbanked ALICE households in our 10-Parish service area to second-chance banking opportunities, financial literacy education, and free community resources.
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
    Free tax preparation for ALICE individuals and families.

Through initiatives in crisis response, environmental stewardship, and disaster preparedness, we are strengthening the foundations of our 10-Parish service area for a more sustainable and secure future.

  • United Way 211 / CAUW
    United Way 211/CAUW is a free confidential service that helps people across North America find the local resources they need. We're here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week
  • United 4 Vets
    Aims to coordinate, streamline, and provide wraparound services to veterans and their families.
