"Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women." - Maya Angelou
Women United of Capital Area United Way is part of a global, growing force of 70,000+ women dedicated to creating a world of opportunity - for everyone.
As part of the Gottlieb and Alexis de Tocqueville leadership societies of Capital Area United Way, our local Women United seeks to improve the lives of those in the Capital area with a focus on education, income stability, healthy living and basic needs - the building blocks for a strong community. As an affinity group, Women United is committed to excellence in community service, fundraising, and dedication to the renewal, development, and empowerment of its members.
When looking at the impact women have in our community, it cannot be overlooked that their impact has been going on for generations. Mahatma Gandhi said, "Be the change that you wish to see in the world" and through Women United, this change is happening. Each year, we celebrate local women who have made a difference through our annual Celebrate the Power of Women awards.
Recently, our Women United Executive Committee opened the nomination process for its 2021 Celebrate the Power of Women awards that will be held on Thursday, August 19th beginning at 7:30 a.m. at L'Auberge Casino and Hotel Baton Rouge presented by our Premier Sponsor, BASF. Awards will include the following: Legacy of Service; Woman of Inspiration; United 40; and, Excellence in Social and Community Investment. The community is invited to nominate individuals and/or groups between now and March 31, 2021 at www.cauw.org/women-united.
"We are excited to open up this nomination process to highlight the women in our community," said Charlene Montelaro, Chairwoman of Capital Area United Way Women United. "The women of our Capital area are doing amazing work, and their work deserves the proper recognition. These individuals have paved a path for our generations to follow and expand for years to come."
By celebrating generations of women we are looking to the past, present and future of our community. From the past, we are able to obtain expert philanthropic advice rooted in a deep knowledge of the community, to the CEOs that are making the community a better place for their workers and their families and breaking workplace barriers for all women, and to the children, our future lies in their hands. These three generations of women will bring people together to improve the quality of life in the Capital area for future generations. Let their voices be heard in our Capital area.
We stand together as a group of women impacting our 10-Parish service area, serving to make a difference through United We Feed initiatives and past projects assisting women with resume writing and skills to enter the workforce. We seek to empower women, and together, we know we can truly make a difference. We are WOMEN UNITED!
