Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world” -- and through Women United this change is happening.
By celebrating generations of women we are looking to the past, present and future of our community. Recognizing multiple generations of women is crucial for sustaining community service and driving change. Each generation brings unique perspectives, experiences, and insights that collectively enrich initiatives aimed at addressing diverse needs and advancing gender equality.
Intergenerational collaboration fosters mentorship, knowledge exchange, and continuity in efforts to create a more equitable and just society for all women, both now and in the future. Here you will find a list of previous winners. Below are the current award categories open for nomination:
Legacy of Service Award - Honors a leader who has had a positive influence on the community and will “leave a legacy” on our 10-parish area. This individual is a role model and provides excellent leadership in one’s profession or co-curricular activities. This individual exemplifies service above self through civic and/or community engagement.
Woman of Inspiration Award - Honors an individual who not only tirelessly fills a vital role of service in our community, but demonstrates passion in giving back and advocates for others to join the crusade. They serve as an inspiration to others who wish to get involved through service in our community and has made a significant contribution of time to furthering Capital Area United Way’s outreach, fundraising, planning, impact, or internal initiatives.
United 40 Award – Honors the power of an individual 40 years of age and under that is striving to make a positive and lasting impact in our community. This can be through excellence in giving, advocating or volunteering who contribute their time and talents for the pure sake of the cause. This young ambassador is an up & coming difference maker who is just beginning a lifelong commitment to service.
Excellence in Social and Community Investment – Honors an individual in business (profit or non-profit) who despite their busy schedule, takes the time to give back. This person strives to positively impact the community, exemplifies a spirit of passion and groundbreaking achievement that leads the way for others through their integrity, compassion, credibility, humility and empowerment of others. They have achieved social balance and exemplifies good citizenship. Nominations for the 2025 Celebrate the Power of Women Awards are due by February.
